Efficient small group ministry

When planning any church ministry, it's important to listen to what God wants to do and where God wants to go. However, knowing what is going on in the church can provide some really helpful background knowledge as you seek God's will for where to take your church.

This is especially true for small group ministry, which tends to be quite a strategic ministry in churches. We recently showcased a tool that can really help you manage your small group data, designating small group members to input attendance data each week for their group.

In this article, we will go into this and a few other tools that can help you and inform your small group ministry planning.

1. A map of small groups and church members not yet in a group

When planning new groups or when praying into your church's small groups ministry, it can be really useful to get a geographical overview of your city - where are the small groups located, where are the church members who are not in a small group located. You can find this in your ChurchApp account under "Small Groups" > "Reports".

2. A list of church members who do not yet have a group they can go to

If you want to encourage more people to join small groups, for instance, or plan for new groups, it can be useful to see a ready-made list of church members who are not yet members of a small group. This list comes with a "Communicate" button in ChurchApp, so you could easily then send them emails to invite this list of people to small groups, or to a "find a small group" event, etc. You can find this in your ChurchApp account under "Small Groups" > "Reports".

3. A list of church members who are in more than one small group

As well as knowing who is not in a small group, it can be useful to know who is in more than one group. Some churches are quite relaxed about this, while others prefer members to commit to only one group. Either way, simply knowing about this can be incredibly handy. You can find this in your ChurchApp account under "Small Groups" > "Reports".

4. Designated small group members submitting attendance data

Designate a small group member (or leader) to submit small group attendance data to your church through the ChurchApp church management system

In this whole process, what's also helpful is spending less time on basic admin and more time in prayer and planning! As detailed in a blog recently (Small group attendance tracking without pain), you can empower small group members by designating a person in each group to submit small group attendance data each week.

5. Monthly small group attendance breakdown

Finally, if you are successfully tracking your small group attendance, ChurchApp has some really helpful graphs for you that break down, month by month or week by week, what the small group attendance in your church is like, in which direction it is going, and so on. Again, this data can be helpful both for planning as well as praying for your church's small groups ministry. You can find this in your ChurchApp account under "Small Groups" > "Reports".

Hopefully these five things will be useful for you in your small groups ministry. If you have any other ideas for small group reports that would be useful to your church, do send us your suggestion at support@churchapp.co.uk.
